What is this site?
This project is intended to be a collaborative effort by Catholics who occupy various states in life. It will be a crossroads where blogging, news, apologetics, and social media meet. In the wake of decades of weak or even corruptive catechesis, many find themselves without an authentic Catholic identity. How do we discover what was never given to us? How do we find the resources that will direct us home to our mother, the Church? How do we build up the spiritual armor needed to prepare for the combat, which Pope Leo XIII says we are born for?(link to the encyclical) These are themes that will be a part of this project.
Why “Magna Animus”?
What we desire is to be magnanimous Catholics. Magnanimity is to be great and generous in both heart and mind. We do not want to die in mediocrity. As Venerable Fulton J. Sheen wrote, "We live in a world that challenges us. And many fall away. Dead bodies float downstream; it takes live bodies to resist the current. And this is our summons".
Why the bird?
Our logo is the European goldfinch. In hundreds of medieval and renaissance paintings, the European goldfinch was used as a Christological symbol. Often the finch was depicted with the Madonna and Christ child as foreshadowing the passion and resurrection to come. As a historical symbol and symbol of the passion, it is a fitting mascot for us.
